Rest-Berlin
Andreas Muhs

For twenty years Berlin has been demolished, built up, renovated and reinvented. With every new building project, wasteland, empty lots, firewalls, plain, unadorned old buildings and tower blocks disappear which dominated the face of the city for many decades. In his "Rest-Berlin" series architectural photographer Andreas Muhs has captured these places and symbols. In line with the layout of the book, the photographs are presented in pairs. To coincide with the exhibition, a photo book will be published and made available as print on demand.

Several times over several seasons Dutch photographer Rogier Alleblas took pictures of the same park-like pedestrian walkway at a crossing in Berlin. All of the photographs show the same details from the same perspective: a few park benches located almost invariably at the same spots, serving as a backdrop for people who regularly pass by there to sit down and take a break. This work has yielded a number of photo series, some of which show the same people again and again in almost identical poses, while others are of different people in almost the same positions. The seasons change throughout the series, yet time seems to be dissolving in the process, blown away with the autumn leaves from the trees in the background of the photographs.

In his series "Born in Luxury" photographer Christian Doppelgatz has portrayed teenagers from the borough of Marzahn in Berlin. The series consists of classical portraits and close-up shots of their clothes, jewellery and tattoos, challenging the stereotypes associated with the term "problematic youths". "What you lookin' at?" is a question each viewer will have to answer for themselves. The photographs were taken at a youth centre in Marzahn run by the Don Bosco Foundation, which conducts various projects to integrate drop-out and socially disadvantaged teenagers.

Kennzeichen B
Susanne Wehr

Susanne Wehr's artistic method of collecting, viewing and reclassifying slides from the estates of deceased people is more than just creating a conglomerate of historically interpretable pictures because it is also reflective of the innumerable ways we might view photographic images. Showcasing images taken between 1961 and 1989, her exhibition "Kennzeichen B" defines the experience of leaving Berlin to go to the country as a collective ritual, though a closer look also reveals the motive of yearning: for a real country to surround the city, a self-image of being far away and for a feeling of belonging to a particular landscape.
